NIGC extends comment period on Class II proposal

The National Indian Gaming Commission has extended the comment period on the proposed Class II definitions, classification standards, and technical regulations.

The comment period was due to close at the end of the month. A Federal Register notice being published this week will announce the new date.

"In order to thoroughly consider all comments and recommendations on this critically important issue, the NIGC will extend the public comment period to November 15, 2006," said NIGC Chairman Phil Hogen.

The proposed regulations will change the definition of a Class II device and provide standards for the classification of Class II devices. Tribes are opposing the changes, saying they will harm the $23 billion Indian gaming industry.
