Gaming tribes behind most political spending

printer friendly

Gaming tribes and gaming interests have contributed $5.4 million to politicians in Wisconsin, The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports.

All of the state's 11 tribes engage in gaming. But only two of them -- the Forest Count Potawatomi Tribe and the Ho-Chunk Nation -- have spent a considerable amount on politicians.

Over a 10-year period, the Forest Count Potawatomi Tribe spent $2.5 million on state and federal candidates. That was the largest amount of tribes and their interests.

The Ho-Chunk Nation was second, with nearly $2 million i in contributions over 10 years. After that, tribal spending falls sharply, with gaming interests linked to the Menominee Nation contributing $411,000 and the Oneida Nation contributing $356,950.
