Opponents of the off-reservation casino proposed by the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians want to vote on the project as soon as possible.
The tribe asked Jackson County to schedule a referendum in November 2008. But opponents say the vote should be held in spring 2007.
Two Jackson County supervisors don't want to move the date. They said it is up to the Choctaws to dictate the process.
The referendum would be non-binding but the Choctaws say they will abide by voter wishes.
Their casino site is in Ocean Springs, more than 200 miles from the reservation.
