With all legal questions resolved, the Jackson County Board of Supervisors plans to schedule a non-binding election for the off-reservation casino sought by the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians.
The county asked for an opinion from the state attorney general's office, which said the vote could be held. Now all that's needed is a date.
Choctaw Chief Phillip Martin asked to hold the vote during the November 2008 presidential election. He said the tribe won't move forward without local support.
The tribe owns 100 acres in the county, more than 200 miles from the reservation. The tribe wants to use the site for a $375 million casino.
