Canada seeks to shut Mohawk online gaming sites

The Canadian government says it will shut down hundreds of Internet gaming sites that are licensed by the Kahnawake First Nation in Quebec.

Mohawk Internet Technologies, a company based on the reserve, hosts the 400 or so betting sites. Mohawk leaders say gaming has long been part of their culture, as protected by the constitution, and that the laws of Canada don't apply.

The Kahnawake Gaming Commission regulates gaming on the reserve. Some fines have been issued to online operators.
