Supreme Court won't act on Gun Lake casino for now

The U.S. Supreme Court won't be taking action on a pending land-into-trust case, meaning the Match-E-Be-Nash-She-Wish Band of Pottawatomi Indians, also known as the Gun Lake Tribe, can't move ahead with plans for its casino in Michigan.

The tribe asked the high court to lift a stay that bars the Interior Department from taking land in trust for the casino. Chief Justice John G. Roberts denied the tribe's motion on September 3, according to the docket sheet.

The D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled that the land can go into trust. But the court issued a stay while Michigan Gambling Opposition pursues an appeal to the Supreme Court.

It will take a few more months before the appeal is resolved.
