Court rules in Stockbridge-Munsee casino case

A casino operated by the Stockbridge-Munsee Band of Mohican Indians is not within reservation boundaries, an appeals court ruled on Tuesday.

The tribe installed slot machines at the Pine Hills Golf Course and Supper Club but the state said the site did not qualify for gaming because it was not held in trust or part of a reservation. The 7th Circuit Court of Appeals agreed that Congress diminished the tribe's 46,000-acre land base.

The case is Wisconsin v. Stockbridge-Munsee Community.
