Fort Sill Apache Tribe to start bingo in New Mexico

The Fort Sill Apache Tribe of Oklahoma will start paper bingo games at its casino in southern New Mexico.

The tribe opened the Apache Homelands Casino last year. The facility is located on trust land but the National Indian Gaming Commission and the state of New Mexico claim it can't be used for gaming.

"Our goal is to return to New Mexico with full sovereignty and ultimately open a casino on that property," Chairman Jeff Houser told The Las Cruces Sun-News.

The tribe's ancestors lived in southern New Mexico before being held as prisoners of war and then forced to move to Oklahoma.
