Mashantucket Tribe sees delays in Pennsylvania

After slot machines were legalized in Pennsylvania, two Connecticut tribes quickly jumped in the game but only one of them has succeeded in opening a facility.

The Mohegan Tribe opened a racetrack with slot machines in November 2006. The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, meanwhile, has been hit with delays even after its project won a license from the state in December 2006.

The tribe and its partners initially proposed to build the Foxwoods Casino Philadelphia on the waterfront in South Philadelphia. But now they are looking at a location in downtown Philadelphia though a final decision hasn't been made.

“The process has taken a lot longer than anticipated,” Gary D. Armentrout, the president of Foxwoods Development Co., told The Norwich Bulletin.

Due to the recession, the tribe has seen a decline in revenues at the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut.
