California tribes see 5.6 percent drop in revenues

Tribes in California and northern Nevada saw a 5.6 percent decline in gaming revenues last year, the National Indian Gaming Commission said in its recent report.

But the number of visitors to tribal casinos doesn't appear to have dropped. Gamblers are just spending less.

"We have the same amount of players, although people seem to spending less everywhere lately, and we are certainly no exception," Mike Hiles, the tribal information officer for the Soboba Band of Luiseño Indians, told The Riverside Press-Enterprise.

Tribes in southern and northern California have laid off casino workers due to the recession.
