The Nottawaseppi Huron Band of Potawatomi Indians is meeting with the state of Michigan to discuss changes to the tribal-state compact.
The tribe reportedly wants to change the provision that affects the Local Revenue Sharing Board. The three-member board was created to determine how to distribute revenues from the FireKeepers Casino among the local community.
The board was due to meet today but postponed after learning of the tribal-state talks. The compact, as written, calls for 2 percent of slot machine revenues to be shared with the local community.
The casino is due to open early next month.
