Nottawaseppi Huron Band debuts FireKeepers

The Nottawaseppi Huron Band of Potawatomi Indians opened the doors to the FireKeepers Casino this morning.

The casino, near Battle Creek, Michigan, features 107,000 square foot gaming floor with 2,680 slot machines, 78 table games, a 120-seat poker room and a bingo hall. The facility also has five restaurants.

“Today marks a significant milestone in the history of our Tribe. Our members, the local community and our new team members have all been looking forward to opening the doors of FireKeepers Casino,” Chairwoman Laura Spurr said in a press release quoted by The Battle Creek Enquirer.

The tribe gained federal recognition in 1995 through an act of Congress. Gaming opponents fought the acquisition of the land used for the casino but lost several rounds in court.
