Seminole Tribe continues compact negotiations

The Seminole Tribe and is moving closer to a Class III gaming compact with the state of Florida, a council member said.

The tribe, negotiators for Gov. Charlie Crist (R) and lawmakers have been hammering out a deal to meet an August 31 deadline. The main issues appear to be revenue sharing and exclusivity for Class III games.

"We'll take it under review and get back to them," council member Max Osceola told The Miami Herald of the latest proposal. Osceola said talks have progressed in the past week.

The tribe has been offering slot machines and table games under a compact that was approved by the Bureau of Indian Affairs. A state court later said Crist overstepped his authority.
