Church groups line up to oppose Mississippi Choctaw casino

Baptist church leaders are urging residents of Jones County to fight a potential Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians casino.

The churches say gambling is evil and destructive. "Gambling has been and is always wrong,” Allen Nix of the Jones County Baptist Association said a meeting, The Laurel Leader-Call reported. "It's vital that we put on the full armor of God in prayer. Prayer is the force and weapon we have in our arsenal as Christians.”

The tribal council plans to vote today on a casino near Sandersville in Jones County. That's about 80 miles from main tribal headquarters in Philadelphia, where the tribe operates two casinos.
