Mashantucket Tribe to eliminate per capita payments this year

Due to "financial challenges," the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation of Connecticut will no longer share gaming revenues with its members.

Adult tribal members received between $90,000 and $120,000 last year, The New London Day reports. But at the end of this year, the payments will cease.

"We realize that the elimination of this income will be a difficult transition for everyone in our Tribal community," the tribal council said in a letter, the paper reported. "We are working diligently with staff to create various resources to better equip Tribal Members with this adjustment.

Under the tribe's federally approved revenue allocation plan (RAP), up to 30 percent of gaming revenues were set aside for per capita payments.
