Turtle Mountain tribal members hope to develop Class II facility

Members of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians who live in a community away from the main reservation hope to develop a Class II facility in order to fund critical programs.

The Trenton Indian Service Area is responsible for about 3,250 people who live in Trenton, about 250 miles from the reservation. But its federal funding is based on a much smaller population so gaming could make up for shortfalls in health care and other programs.

"We need to find alternative sources to acquire funding to help off-set medical and housing costs that we were promised in 1904," Tony Moran, the tribal operations consultant for TISA, told The Minot Daily News.

TISA has secured a Class II license from the Turtle Mountain Band. Moran said officials will meet with a potential investor and solicit public input for a gaming facility.
