Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe eager to deal off-reservation casino

The Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe is eager to make a deal for an off-reservation casino in South Dakota.

The tribe operates the Royal River Casino on its reservation. Most of the market comes from the Sioux Falls area, and with a casino under construction just across the border in Iowa, politicians are looking for a way to compete.

"This would be a win win situation for the state, Sioux Falls, you know, and the Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe," casino general manager Jackie Barse told KDLT-TV.

Scott Heidepriem, the Democratic candidate for governor, is calling for a new casino although he didn't specifically endorse the tribe's proposal.
