California Gov. Arnold
Schwarzenegger (R) signed a bill to distribute $30 million in gaming revenues to local communities.
Schwarzenegger had been holding back the funds for the current year. He also refused to distribute the money to communities affected by casinos in 2007 and in 2008.
Tribes that signed Class III gaming compacts contribute a portion of their revenues to the Indian Gaming Special Distribution Fund.
But the fund could run out of money as soon as 2013.
Part of the reason the Special Distribution Fund is losing money is that Schwarzenegger signed new Class III compacts that require tribes to pay into the state's general fund.
