Judge halts sale of land for Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe's casino

A judge in Massachusetts halted the sale of land to the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe.

The judge said the sale of the land in the city of Fall River might violate state laws. He said the property wasn't meant to be used for gaming and wasn't put out for competitive bidding.

The tribe agreed to buy 45 acres for $4.5 million. The tribe secured options on another 255 acres for $16.3 million.

The tribe has already added the entire 300-acre site to the land-into-trust application it filed with the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
