Editorial: No dice for the off-reservation casino in the Catkskills

"David Paterson long ago torched his quota of public trust, so it's more than a little bizarre for him to expect New Yorkers to take at face value the latest dubious gambling scheme to emerge from Albany's executive chamber.

Does he think folks would already have forgotten the scandalous mess surrounding the Aqueduct racino deal?

Or, with just six weeks left in his term, does he simply not care anymore?

To the surprise of just about everyone, officials revealed that Paterson is about to sign off on a deal with the Wisconsin-based Stockbridge-Munsee tribe of Mohicans to build a full-service casino in economically distressed Sullivan County, just 90 miles north of New York City.

The agreement was executed entirely behind closed doors, with no public disclosure until it was all but done.

Sound familiar?"
