Shinnecock Nation to negotiate gaming pact with new governor

The Shinnecock Nation plans to negotiate a Class III gaming compact after incoming New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) takes office.

Once the compact is finalized, the tribe will narrow down the location or locations for its gaming operation. A number of sites are being considered.

“We get new proposals every day,” Donna Collins Smith, the chairwoman of the tribe’s gaming commission, said at the meeting of the Long Island Mid-Suffolk Business Association, the Long Island Business News reported.

The tribe's federal recognition became final in October.
