Kickapoo Tribe still in the planning stages for second casino

The Kickapoo Tribe plans to build its second casino near Shawnee, Oklahoma.

The tribe has 56 acres slated for development. But details are still being worked out.

“The project is still in the planning stages and we're working on a master plan,” Che' Downs, the general manager of the Kickapoo Casino, told The Oklahoman. “Right now, we don't know how large it's going to be, or anything about future expansions.”

As part of the plan, the tribe is asking the city of Shawnee to annex the property in order to access police, fire and other municipal services. City commissioners haven't made a decision but the tribe could go out on its own if the request is rejected, Downs said.

“It's going to be built no matter what, but we want to partner with the city to make this a good deal for everyone,” Downs told the paper.
