St. Regis Mohawk Tribe announces $110M casino expansion

The St. Regis Mohawk Tribe of New York has secured $110 million in financing for a gaming expansion project.

The financing will pay for the expansion plus pay off existing debt, according to news reports. The expansion itself is reported to cost $74 million.

The tribe is relocating the Mohawk Bingo Palace to the site of the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino. Work on this aspect started last October and should be complete by this November or December.

The second and third phases include a remodeling of existing buildings that should be complete by January 2013. Phase four, to be complete by March 2013, will include a 150-room hotel with a spa, swimming pool and conference/banquet space.

The project is expected to generate more than 350 construction jobs, the tribe said.
