Fort Sill Apache Tribe asks governor for casino meeting

The Fort Sill Apache Tribe of Oklahoma has asked New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez (R) for a meeting to discuss an off-reservation casino.

The tribe wants to open a casino on its 30-acre reservation in the southern part of the state. When Martinez was asked if she supported the idea, she simply responded "No."

"I wouldn't feel comfortable addressing it until we have a chance to talk to her," Chairman Jeff Haozous told The Deming Headlight. "We've requested a meeting with her."

The tribe needs state and federal approval to open the casino.
