City threatens to stop fire protection at Seneca Nation casino

The mayor in Niagara Falls, New York, is threatening to cut fire protection services at the casino owned by the Seneca Nation.

The tribe has withheld more than $400 million in gaming revenues from the state in an ongoing Class III compact dispute. That has left several communities without a key source of funds.

"By our count the city is owned nearly $60 million dollars," Mayor Paul Dyster told local media, WKBW-TV reported.

In the face of potential layoffs of city workers, including firefighters, Dyster said he would stop providing services to the Seneca Niagara Casino & Hotel.
