The Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians will make an announcement today regarding its off-reservation casino in Lansing, Michigan.

The tribe, the city and developers faced a November 1 deadline to reach a land deal for a site in downtown Lansing. The press conference today will presumably address the deal.

The tribe plans to purchase the gaming site with funds from the Michigan Indian Land Claims Settlement Act. As a result, the tribe believes the Bureau of Indian Affairs will be required to place the land in trust.
