Chumash Tribe set for big hearing on liquor license next week

The Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians will go before the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control next week for a four-day hearing on its liquor license.

The tribe is seeking to expand the sale of liquor at the Chumash Casino Hotel and Resort. Alcohol, however, won't be allowed on the gaming floor.

The request generated significant controversy -- 98 opposition letters were sent to the ABC, while only four were in support, The Solvang Valley News reported.
