The Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut will meet a January 15 deadline to compete for a casino in Massachusetts, a gaming executive said.

The tribe wants to build a casino in Palmer, in the western part of the state. The application requires a non-refundable $400,000 fee.

"I can tell you, we fully plan to file our application prior to the deadline," Mitchell G. Etess, the chief executive officer of the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority, told The Springfield Republican. "We are going to submit it."

Two other companies are also competing for the western Massachusetts casino. MGM Resorts and Penn National Gaming have already paid the $400,000 fee.
