Jamul Band reignites controversy with plans for $360M casino

The Jamul Indian Village of California has reignited local opposition with plans for a $360 million casino on the reservation.

The tribe says the 200,000 square-foot facility, to be developed in partnership with Penn National Gaming, will blend into the surroundings. But neighbors say the casino will generate too much traffic on an aging highway.

The tribe previously worked with Lakes Entertainment on the casino and owes $60 million to the company, according to a press release.

"We are happy for the Jamul Tribe as it continues to pursue its gaming opportunity. This is also good news for Lakes, as it provides for the potential opportunity for Lakes to recover its financial investment in the Jamul project," Lakes President Tim Cope said in the press release.
