Village asserts jurisdiction on Cayuga Nation Class II facility

The village of Union Springs, New York, is asserting jurisdiction over a Class II facility operated by the Cayuga Nation.

The tribe offers bingo and pull tabs at the LakeSide Entertainment facility. It's located on land that is not in trust so the village says the business must comply with local laws.

The village gave the tribe until July 26 to obtain a license. "We have received the notice and are reviewing it," a spokesperson for the tribe told The Auburn Citizen.

The Bureau of Indian Affairs published a final environmental impact statement on the tribe's land-into-trust application. The tribe has been anticipating a final decision.
