The Twenty-Nine Palms Band of Mission Indians in California started accepting application for jobs at its new casino on Tuesday.

Nearly 1,000 people turned out for a chance at 150 jobs, The Hi-Desert Star reported. Only the first 320 people in line received same-day interviews, the paper said.

"We pay minimum wage of $8 an hour and up,” Sharon Marshall, the casino's director of human resources, told the paper. “We’ll be here today until everyone with a number gets their interview.”

The tribe has broken ground on the 30,000 square-foot Tortoise Rock Casino. The facility will feature 500 slot machines, seven table games, a deli and a bar.

The casino is expected to open in December, the paper reported.

The tribe operates the Spotlight 29 Casino on a different portion of its land base.
