The Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut signed a host agreement on Thursday for a commercial casino in western Massachusetts.

The tribe agreed to pay $15.2 million a year to the town of Palmer to address impacts of the $1 billion Mohegan Sun Palmer. That's in addition to a share of revenues from the casino and a $2.94 million one-time payment.

The agreement will go before town voters, possibly on November 5. If it's approved, the tribe will remain in the running for the commercial casino license in the western part of the state.

Competitors include Hard Rock International, which is owned by the Seminole Tribe of Florida. The license is expected to be awarded early next year.
