The city of Coconut Creek, Florida, is supporting a land-into-trust application submitted by the Seminole Tribe for a site adjacent to one of its casinos.

The tribe currently has no plans for gaming at the 46-acre site next to the Seminole Coconut Creek Casino. Some local residents raised alarms about potential development but the city council isn't worried.

"Based upon extensive study and review, the city has determined that a decision to take the land into trust will be extremely positive for our community," the city said in a letter to the Bureau of Indian Affairs, The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported.

The tribe is still waiting to hear from the BIA about application, a spokesperson said.
