The four federally recognized tribes currently based in Kansas are opposing a potential casino from the Delaware Tribe of Oklahoma.

The Delaware Tribe recently acquired 90 acres in Kansas and has made no secret of its plans to re-establish its presence in the state. Chief Paula Pechonick said the land won't be used for a casino but the other tribes aren't convinced.

"[T]he odds are strong that the Delaware Tribe, currently based in Oklahoma, will apply to put its newly purchased Douglas County, Kansas land into trust with the eventual hope of gaming," a resolution signed by the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation, the Kickapoo Tribe, the Sac and Fox Nation and the Iowa Tribe states, The Lawrence Journal-World reported.

The Delaware Tribe has yet to submit a land-into-trust application to the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
