Wilton Rancheria hopes to rebuild future with gaming facility

After losing federal recognition and its reservation, the Wilton Rancheria of California is hoping to rebuild its future by turning to Indian gaming.

The tribe is working with Boyd Gaming on a casino at a 160-acre site near the city of Galt. The project will likely take several years to complete but it's something the tribe has worked hard for after regaining federal recognition in 2009.

"So much has happened, it's all so surreal," Chairman Andrew Franklin told The Sacramento Bee. "But we've got a path, and we're sticking to it. We want to be self-reliant."

The region is already home to three tribal casinos but officials in Galt are welcoming the prospect of one in their backyard.
