Oneida Nation negotiates a new Class III gaming compact

The Oneida Nation has reached a new Class III gaming compact with the state of New York, according to news reports.

The tribe has agreed to share 25 percent of slot machine revenues with the state. In exchange, the compact bars new gaming facilities in a 10-county region.

The tribe first signed a compact in 1993. It did not include revenue sharing.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) pressured the tribe to share revenues or face competition from non-Indian casinos.
