Mashantucket Tribe to negotiate casino deal in Massachusetts

The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation of Connecticut is seeing positive moment on its proposed commercial casino in Massachusetts.

Foxwoods Massachusetts has faced intense local opposition, unlike most other proposals in the state. But leaders in the town of Milford, about 35 miles outside Boston, agreed to negotiate a host agreement for the project.

The host agreement is only one step in the process. Voters will get their say on a referendum, which is expected to take place in late October or early November, a Foxwoods Massachusetts executive said.

The tribe is bidding on the license for an eastern Massachusetts casino. Two other companies are also in the running.
