Mashantucket Tribe faces vote on Massachusetts casino plan

The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation of Connecticut faces a vote on its commercial casino in eastern Massachusetts in less than two weeks.

Residents of Milford, a town outside of Boston, will vote on the $1 billion Foxwoods Massachusetts on November 19. If they reject the project, that pretty much spells the end of the process for the tribe and its partners.

The stakes are high because voters in East Boston already rejected a proposed casino that would have competed for the eastern Massachusetts license. If Foxwoods goes down, only one company will remain in the running -- voters in Everett already approved a host agreement with Wynn Resorts.

In western Massachusetts, only one company -- MGM Resorts International -- appears to be in the running. The Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut lost a referendum in the town of Palmer by 93 votes but a recount is being requested.
