Mashpee Wampanaog Tribe racks up $70M debt in casino bid

The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe of Massachusetts has racked up $70 million in debt in pursuit of a casino, The Cape Cod Times reported.

The tribe is seeing progress on its $500 million First Light Resort and Casino. But the effort costs money and the tribal council voted to borrow another $4 million, the paper said.

Of the $4 million, $1 million will be used to pay off interest to Arkana Ltd., a gaming developer, the paper said.
