Mohegan Tribe exploring gaming options in Massachusetts

The Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut is reportedly entering into a new commercial casino venture in Massachusetts after losing a referendum for its original plan.

The tribe will be joining the Suffolk Downs project in the eastern part of the state, The Boston Globe reported. A formal announcement could come as early as today, the paper said.

The tribe originally pitched the $1 billion Mohegan Sun Palmer in western Massachusetts. But voters in the town of Palmer rejected the plan by 94 votes, according to the results of a recount.

Voters in Revere approved a casino in their community.
