Seneca Nation sees opposition to off-reservation casino project

The Seneca Nation has yet to announce details for its latest off-reservation casino but residents of Henrietta, New York, are hoping to put a stop to the project.

More than 1,700 people have signed a petition against a casino in their community. A group of residents also spoke out against the idea at a town meeting last night.

"We're not against the Seneca Nation. We're against the casino," Lois Verde told the town board, The Rochester Democrat & Chronicle reported.

The tribe has reportedly found a site for the casino. Some local governments are against it because they depend on revenues from an off-track betting facility.

The Western Regional Off-Track Betting Corp. has filed a complaint with the Joint Commission on Public Ethics, accusing the tribe and its lobbyist of violating state laws in pursuit of the casino.
