The Jamul Indian Village of California has started construction of a $360 million casino on its reservation.

The 200,000 square-foot Hollywood Casino Jamul will feature three stories of gaming and entertainment space. The project includes more 1,700 slot machines, 50 table gams, multiple restaurants, bars and lounges and a 1,900-space parking structure.

“We are very excited that our long-time dream will finally become a reality,” Chairman Raymond Hunter said in a press release.

The casino is expected to open in late 2015. The tribe is working with Penn National Gaming on the project.

"We are excited to serve as the JIV’s developer, lender and manager of this Hollywood-branded gaming facility, which will deliver economic benefits for the Tribe and the local community,” said Jay Snowden, the company's chief operating officer.

Casino opponents are suing the National Indian Gaming Commission and the Bureau of Indian Affairs in hopes of blocking the casino. Turtle Talk has posted the complaint in the case, Jamul Action Committee v. Stevens.
