The Manzanita Band of the Kumeyaay Nation in California is still waiting for an answer on its off-reservation casino application.

The tribe thought the Bureau of Indian Affairs would issue a record of decision last fall. That didn't happen but it looks like there might some movement soon.

“I think we’re going to be having some good news,” Calexico Mayor Bill Hodge said at a press conference, The Imperial Valley Press reported.

The tribe is pursuing the casino under the two-part determination provisions of the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act. If the BIA approves, Gov. Jerry Brown (D) would be able to concur or reject the project.

Since taking office, Brown has concurred with two two-part determination decisions. Both have been very controversial and one project is being put to a statewide vote this year.

The final environmental impact statement for the Manzanita Band casino was published in October 2011.
