The Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa is ready to go when Internet gaming becomes legal in Wisconsin.

The tribe was the first to join the Tribal Internet Gaming Alliance, an organization that promotes online wagering. To draw interest, the Lake of the Torches Casino Resort started a free-play site that registered up more than 2,000 users in the first month.

"These intertribal relationships are important as tribal nations strive to become more self-sufficient and economically secure," Jerome "Brooks" Big John, a Lac du Flambeau tribal council member, told Poker News. "Inter-tribal business partnerships can prove to be beneficial by sharing potential risks, reducing costs and bringing together different strengths that allow for more successful businesses.

Federal law bars Internet gaming unless it is conducted under a Class III gaming compact or under state law.
