The Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians is making the rounds with a proposal for a $60 million off-reservation casino in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Tribal leaders are meeting with the city council today, their second time before the city. They also plan to present the idea to tribal members on Thursday.

"We’ve got to come home and start an open dialogue with our membership,” Secretary-Treasurer Patrick Marcellais told The Grand Forks Herald.

The tribe operates the Sky Dancer Casino and Hotel on its reservation, about 187 miles from Grand Forks. The facility provides most of the revenue for the tribe, Marcellais said.

Unemployment remains high, however, so tribal leaders believe an off-reservation casino can provide jobs and opportunity for their members.
