The Bureau of Indian Affairs is accepting public comments on an off-reservation casino for the Los Coyotes Band of Cahuilla and Cupeno Indians in California.

The final environmental impact statement for the $160 million Barstow Casino and Resort was released on April 18. The comment period only lasts 30 days but the BIA won't say when a decision will be made.

“I never like to give estimates. I’m not a decision maker. I just process environmental documents,” Chad Broussard, an environmental protection specialist with the BIA, told The Desert Dispatch.

Officials in Barstow support the casino. The site is about 115 miles from the reservation.
