The Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians will close the hotel at its casino in downtown Palm Springs this July.

The closure of the hotel at the Spa Resort Casino will affect 150 employees. Some will be transferred to the tribe's other casino in Rancho Mirage.

The gaming facility in Palm Springs will remain open. The tribe hasn't said what it will do with the remainder of the site.

“We are reviewing concepts and considering our options to identify the necessary steps to preserve this key landmark in downtown and rejuvenate the property around it,” Chairman Jeff L. Grubbe said in a statement on Vision Agua Caliente. “It’s the place where it all began – the site of our natural hot mineral spring. And, for which our tribe and the City of Palm Springs were named. It has been more than 50 years since we’ve made significant investments in and around this valued cultural resource. They are long overdue. And, the time is now.”
