The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation of Connecticut is committed to a casino in Fall River, Massachusetts, the city's mayor said.

Mayor Will Flanagan told The Fall River Herald News that he was reassured by Scott Butera, the CEO of Foxwoods Resort Casino of the tribe's desire to build a commercial casino in the city.

“They’re not looking elsewhere,” Flanagan told the paper.

The New Bedford Standard-Times, however, continues to report that the tribe is in "serious negotiations" for a casino in the city of New Bedford. Butera has not responded to request for comment, the paper said.

The paper added more fuel to the story and reported that KG Urban Enterprises, a non-Indian company that also wants to build a casino in New Bedford, is interested in a partnership with the tribe. A spokesperson wouldn't say whether or not there have been talks between the two parties.

“We have had conversations with a lot of qualified operators," the spokesperson told the paper.
