The Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria in California will negotiate a labor contract with about 600 casino employees.

The employees at the Graton Resort and Casino voted to join the Unite Here union. The group will represent about half of the workforce at the facility.

“I’m so happy that people will have good jobs with us for as long as we’re around,” Chairman Greg Sarris told The Santa Rosa Press-Democrat. “The selling point is not that people get better benefits, but that they get to keep them.”

Employees in other parts of the casino are starting their own union drives. About 1,200 people work at the facility, which opened last November.
