The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe of Massachusetts has changed casino architects, a move that has increased its debt load, The Cape Cod Times reports.

Steelman Partners has taken over the $500 million First Light Resort and Casino. The firm is being paid $900,000 per month, for a total of $14.5 million, tribal sources told the paper.

The tribe already paid more than $13 million to JCJ Architects for the original designs. "We're paying again for new designs and going deeper into debt," a source told the paper. "Why?"

The tribe is now $90 million in debt, sources told the paper. The casino has yet to receive final approval from the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
